The draft, suggests various solutions to mitigate climate change, such as capturing and burying emissions from coal-fired power plants, shifting to renewable forms of energy and more use of nuclear power, which for China that relies heavily on coal could mean the beginning of economic slowdown.

This reminds me of a scene from “The Inconvenient Truth” where Gore points to a 90′s poster that has the earth on one scale of the balance and gold bullions on the other. China now gets the pick, and if any of them have at least half an ounce gray matter up there, they will chose a policy unlike that of our beloved Bush’s administration!

This was the question at the core of a recent Oxford-style debate called Intelligence Squared U.S. Three proponents of the theory that “carbon dioxide causes global warming” faced off three opponents. The debate is worth listening to no matter which side of the aisle you are in, but you better make yourself free for the next hour and half and hopefully you are on a high-speed Internet connection. According to National Environmental Trust (NET) a D.C. based non-profit, the scientific evidence paints a compelling picture of how global warming is already making storms more powerful. A 2004 NASA study found that over an eighty year period, global warming would cause the average hurricane to increase by half a category on the Category 1 through 5 scale (Saffir-Simpson scale) that is the official measure of hurricane strength. This along with several independent papers, suggest that global warming is already making storms stronger.

Producer and writer for The Simpsons, George Meyer, invites eveyone, even the hypocrites to join the environmental movement.

Meyer’s contemplate being rescued by Nanobots or a possible move to Jupiter to escape the apocalyptic hellscape A.K.A “the earth”. Meyer’s says, “Once in a while, humanity will pull together for a noble cause, like tsunami relief. To save our planet, we’ll need that kind of heroic effort, in which all types of people join forces for the common good.” He continues, ”For years, the environmental movement has enlisted the world’s most selfless and enlightened souls. No more. We’re broadening our sights; and by broadening, I mean lowering.”

Funny and very real.

America is facing what could possibly become one of the hottest summers in recorded history. Ironically, the very industry responsible for this debacle is also the one raking in profits from the recent heat wave sweeping our nation. Confused? Allow me to indulge you in a little industry secret, but before we go, let’s first refresh our memory on the relationship between gasoline and global warming.

Scientific consensus is that greenhouse gases (especially CO2), are responsible for accelerating climate change. Carbon dioxide, a combustion byproduct of gasoline use is attributed as the leading cause of global warming. The heat wave has further intensified use of air conditioners and fans, stressing electric supply.

We all know who profits from gasoline, Exxon Mobil, Chevron and Conoco Phillips, but electricity? You would imagine with the soaring demand, utilities would make a killing, but apparently not. While most utilities across America are running on all cylinders, they are not really doing it effectively enough to cash in. Reasons, many power plants produce electricity by burning natural gas, and natural gas prices are up, way up. Also, operating more generators, for longer times result in excess gas use, meaning less efficiency of the process and low cost recovery per throughput.

However, the natural gas market is reaping in colossal profits, and the leading producers of natural gas are…you got it, Exxon Mobil, Chevron and Conoco Phillips. So no matter what, big oil wins.
